The explorer told journalists in Warsaw it anticipated the country exit would take place by the second half of 2014, Reuters reported.
Marathon Oil announced late on Tuesday in its first quarter results that it would quit exploration activities in Poland.
"After an extensive evaluation of the company's exploration activities in Poland and unsuccessful attempts to find commercial levels of hydrocarbons, Marathon Oil has elected to conclude operations in the country," it said.
The explorer said it was now ?evaluating disposition options for its concessions?, for which it gave a book value of $12 million.
As of the start of this year, Marathon Oil?s Polish assets include around 1.2 million net acres across 11 licences in the country?s Paleozoic shale play.
The concessions, all operated, include a 51% working interest in nine concessions where Marathon Oil has been partnered with Canada's Nexen since 2011.
Japan's Mitsui joined the pair by acquiring a 9% stake in the nine licences in 2011.
Marathon Oil also holds an 85% working interest and a 100% interest in two further concessions.
